Rose coffee for Women’s Day — and what about dessert?

Rose coffee — a perfect Women's Day gift

A rose beautifully expresses the delicacy associated with femininity. Most women have probably received this subtle flower at least once; it is the flower men queue to buy on Women's Day. Roses also form the basis of many women's cosmetics. Any of these can make a lovely gift, but if you want to surprise your partner, prepare something extraordinary.

A morning together or an afternoon break is undoubtedly an ideal time for coffee. On Women's Day, give it a special floral touch with a little sweet rose syrup. Just a few drops transform everyday coffee and let you enjoy its delicate floral aroma.

Which coffee works with rose syrup?

You do not need a special coffee variety to prepare a delicious rose coffee. The floral touch, reminiscent of preserves, works equally well with black coffee or coffee with milk. Its sweetness softens the bitterness of a selected Arabica–Robusta blend and highlights the sweet notes of Costa Rican Caturra Peaberry.

Do not limit yourself to one kind of coffee. Rose syrup also works with decaffeinated coffee and even tea! Add whipped cream sprinkled with white chocolate or coconut flakes. For an elegant finishing touch, decorate with fresh raspberries, strawberries or cherries. The possibilities are plentiful and depend entirely on your taste.

And what about dessert?

Rose coffee with delicious toppings can be the queen of the evening. Yet every queen needs an entourage, and this drink deserves excellent company! Among the many Women's Day desserts, delicate macarons, associated with France and Italy, make a wonderful match for subtle, sweet coffee.

Their history goes back to the thirteenth century, when these treats became so popular that they appeared on the tables of monarchs and nobles. Originally, they were delicate biscuits made from egg whites, icing sugar and ground almonds. Butter, honey, cream, dried fruit, nuts or chocolate were sometimes added for variety. Over time, both their flavour and appearance changed considerably. How should you make them today?

A well-made macaron has a soft, airy centre and a crisp outer shell. The basic ingredients — egg whites, sugar and ground almonds — remain the same, but today's macarons are sandwiched with different delicious fillings. Food colouring can give them almost any shade. Here is how to prepare this sweet treat for Women's Day.

French-method macarons

For approximately 36 individual macaron shells, you need:

  • 70 g ground almonds
  • 100 g icing sugar
  • 50 g egg whites
  • A pinch of salt
  • Food colouring, optional

First, mix the ground almonds with half the icing sugar, grind the mixture and sieve it. Meanwhile, separate the egg whites and beat them with a pinch of salt until stiff. Gradually add the remaining icing sugar while beating. The final mixture should be smooth and glossy. If using food colouring, add it now and mix briefly.

Add the almond-and-sugar mixture and fold gently with a spatula until the batter flows off it. Using a piping bag, pipe circles around 3 cm across onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Tap the tray against the worktop several times to help the batter settle evenly.

Leave the piped shells to rest for 20–60 minutes. Then place them in an oven preheated to 140°C, fan setting, and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Remove and leave to cool.

The second stage is the filling. Naturally, we suggest rose flavour! You need one bar of white chocolate, pink food colouring, 40 ml cream and one tablespoon of rose syrup. Melt the chocolate and cream together over a water bath, stirring regularly. Add the remaining ingredients, mix and chill. Finally, sandwich the macaron shells with the filling.

Prepare something special with a new flavour for Women's Day, and enjoy this lovely occasion in a pleasant atmosphere!
