One such classic device is precisely the Chemex. The father of the Chemex was American chemist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm. Although Dr. Peter Schlumbohm held about 300 different patents in his field, he only became famous after he patented and manufactured the Chemex. The device gained great popularity in a short period of time and even starred in several famous film productions, e.g. Rosemary's Baby. The popularity of the device obliged the owner to establish a Chemex business in Pittsfield. In 1943, the Museum of Modern Art recognized the Chemex as one of the best designed products.

It is made of high quality heat-resistant glass with a wooden collar and leather trim. The collar is located in the middle of the machine and serves as a handle and protects against burns. Filters used in Chemexes do not absorb odors and do not pass sediment.
